Conclusion

There may not be a more polarizing quarterback prospect in this year’s draft than Brandon Bridge. Although he comes from a small school, he possesses all the talent and the build that will have NFL scouts and coaches fighting to get their hands on him. The questions surrounding Bridge’s mechanics, footwork, etc. are certainly valid but as previously mentioned, they can easily be fixed with proper training and coaching around him.

As far as the Eagles are concerned, they have to find their next franchise quarterback soon. The team can’t keep falling short because of limitations at the position. Bridge may not be the answer now but if he’s given a year or more to sit behind an NFL quarterback and just soak up all the knowledge he can from the coaching staff, he could certainly be the answer down the road.

Bridge may be in a similar scenario as former Virginia Tech quarterback and now Arizona Cardinals quarterback Logan Thomas was during last year’s draft process. Thomas was viewed as a long term project but offered so much upside because of his size, speed and arm talent. Since he wasn’t ready right away, Thomas fell down the draft board to the Cardinals in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Although Bridge is in an arguably weaker quarterback draft class, he may be stuck in the same situation as Thomas as a day three “long term project” at the position. But Bridge can change all of that starting with a strong performance at the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl which he is set to participate in on January 17th at 4 PM on ESPN U.

Following that showcase, Bridge will have to turn his focus to the NFL Scouting Combine and then his pro day. It’s going to be an interesting next couple of months for him and he can certainly put his name on the map with strong performances at each of these events. Bridge clearly has the talent, it’s just a matter of now putting it on display for the entire world to see.
