5) Lynden Trail, DE/OLB, Norfolk State
It’s going to be hard to miss Norfolk State’s Lynden Trail at the combine, that’s for sure. At a monstrous 6-6, 262 lbs., Trail is a mountain of a man with a very unique skill-set. While in college, Trail spent time as both a traditional defensive end with his hand in the dirt but also stood up and played some outside linebacker as well.
But what’s really intriguing to many NFL scouts and coaches is Trail’s experience as a receiver from his high school playing days. At the senior bowl, Trail played a bit of tight end during practices and was reportedly asked by coaches if he would be open to playing the position at the next level. If Trail really runs a 4.67 40-yard dash or better at the combine like some reports say he can, he’ll really start to turn heads in Indianapolis.
When you put on the game film, it’s easy to see Trail’s potential and ability on defense. But the potential to play tight end as well at the next level has to really make some teams want to get their hands on him. This draft class has some freak athletes that can play a multitude of positions on either side of the ball, just add Norfolk State’s Lynden Trail to that list. Eagles head coach Chip Kelly loves the motto “bigger people beat up little people”, Trail would certainly fit that belief.
