Philadelphia Eagles should take a waiver on RGIII

Robert Griffin III sucks. I needed to come out and say that before I’m being burned in effigy and running away from an incensed crowd branding pitchforks and torches. I acknowledge that he has not been good for two years, but I still think the Philadelphia Eagles should take a waiver on RGIII if he is released by the Washington Redskins.

In his rookie year, RGIII led the Redskins to a division championship and earned himself a spot in the 2013 Pro Bowl. That’s right, RGIII made the 2013 Pro Bowl his rookie year, while the man chosen one pick ahead of him, Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, did not. He looked fantastic; watching him that year, you would have expected him to own the NFC East for years. A few injuries later and RGIII’s once awesome talent has seemingly vanished into a black hole.

Now the situation has gotten so bad that the Redskins are not even holding hope for the guy. There’s a chance he gets cut before the regular season begins. To say he’s been a bad quarterback may even be too kind.

Aside from his on-the-field struggles, RGIII has been something of a locker room poison. The front office, his coaches, and even his teammates have soured on RGIII, who is by all accounts a selfish player.

And yet, there’s got to be something there. A shadow of what was once considered unique talent. If he joined the Eagles, he would immediately be an upgrade over Tim Tebow. Eagles head coach Chip Kelly, who loves Tebow and what his mobility brings to the offense, would have a faster, stronger-armed, more accurate quarterback.

I would think that RGIII could take Eagles quarterback Matt Barkley‘s spot as well. Barkley hasn’t performed well in his time on the field and his lack of mobility essentially makes him a worse version of Eagles backup quarterback Mark Sanchez.

Kelly has spent his first three seasons in the NFL building a strong locker room. From the vets to the rookies, there’s not a problem child in the bunch. That’s the sort of situation RGIII needs to go to if he wants any chance of salvaging his once promising career. They say one bad apple spoils the bunch, but if said apple is the third string quarterback, not much spoiling will take place.

Kelly’s quarterback friendly offense would be a good place for RGIII to remember how to play quarterback. And with him on the roster, I would be less fearful of life after Bradford if Sam Bradford does indeed leave the Eagles next year when his rookie contract expires.

I know I’m probably going to garner some hate for this article, but it had to be done.

Fly Eagles Fly.
