Third String Quarterbacks

One of the biggest storylines this year at Philadelphia Eagles camp was the battle for the third string quarterback position. The team brought in Tim Tebow off the street and gave him a shot to go up against Matt Barkley. Tebow was never a good passer but had running ability that could be maximized in head coach Chip Kelly’s offense. Barkley had a tad bit more upside as a passer than Tebow, but nothing else.

Both quarterbacks struggled in practice and that lackadaisical play carried over to the preseason games. Both Barkley and Tim held the ball way too long, made poor decisions, and threw inaccurate balls all day long while missing wide open receivers. When I mean wide open, I mean WIDE open, like there wasn’t even a defender close to the receiver open.

Honestly, neither Tebow or Barkley deserve to be on the Philadelphia Eagles final 53 man roster. There were a number of players at other positions that busted their butt and played well but won’t make the team because the team will likely keep Tim Tebow on the roster. As for Barkley it’s disappointing to see the lack of progress made in three years in the same system. Both players were very disappointing and annoying to watch this preseason.
