Zach Ertz and Brent Celek Conundrum

A lot has been talked about regarding Zach Ertz and how many snaps he got compared to Brent Celek. As is the case with DeMarco Murray, the pace of the game dictated a lot of the personnel decisions on offense. Because the Eagles went pass-heavy, Celek’s blocking was not needed as much. As a result, he played only 27 offensive snaps compared to Ertz’s 52 offensive snaps.

Despite Ertz’s questionable availability, he did play a bit more than I expected. But this does not signal a changing of the guard folks. Celek is still a far superior blocker, and in games where the Eagles have the lead, he’s going to be on the field more to aid in run blocking.

The biggest question for Sunday’s matchup will be whether the Eagles need Celek all that much to help on the line. With the Dallas pass rush being limited by injury and suspension, Ertz may continue to see an advantage in the snap count this week. Ultimately, the game itself is likely to dictate who plays more. So if you’re relying upon Ertz for fantasy football purposes, just know that you might be riding a rollercoaster of emotions if the Eagles find themselves in a run-heavy game-plan.
