Much like Ryan Mathews, however, Sproles’ production tapered off at the end of the season. This underscores the importance of addressing the running back position. Sproles will be 33 years old in June. Already past the age of 30, the proverbial cliff of a running back’s career, Sproles can only cheat inevitability for so long.
As is the case for Mathews, one has to wonder whether Sproles will be in the Eagles’ plans past the 2016 season. That leaves only Kenjon Barner left to fill the void. Barner displayed elusiveness during his limited exposure in Chip Kelly’s offense last season. Most, including myself, question his ability to handle an expanded role in a game-plan. Where’s Raheem Mostert when we need him?
