Kenjon Barner

There is much debate as to whether or not Kenjon Barner will make the team as a running back or if he will just remain as a special teams burner. Well, “burner” might be a bit of a misnomer.

More from Eagles News

Like Bradford, Barner was a pre-season monster in 2015 with 223 punt-return yards and two touchdowns, but once the regular season started, he was gone. There are a lot of factors to consider when discussing his disappearance, but most of it can be blamed on what was crowded backfield. Barner played fourth fiddle behind Murray, Mathews, and Sproles. However, when the RB situation started to unravel, and Barner got more opportunities he was impressive. He blocked well, caught passes, and averaged 4.4 yds. per carry.

OK, nothing that is going to make you run out and buy the guy’s poster, or demand that Philly make a poster of him, but it’s still impressive. Barner should move up on the depth chart this year, and if he doesn’t take hold of the opportunity, then we can write him off. Until then, he is still a damn good fit for the offense and should be able to make plenty of goal line contributions.
