Zach Ertz – Tight End

Zach Ertz may not match Rob Gronkowski statistically; that doesn’t discount his importance to the Eagles.

Ertz is an offensive star in the making. Last season, we saw Ertz become a more prominent feature in the Eagles’ offense.

More from Inside the Iggles

After being asked to work on his blocking this past off-season, Ertz worked with future Hall Of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez. Following what we saw on the field in 2015/16 shows me that there’s a lot to be excited about with Ertz in 2016.

Pro Football Focus had Ertz ranked 4th league-wide amongst tight ends, giving him an 84.9 grade, which was slightly higher than Washington Redskins tight end Jordan Reed. The one statistic that stood out was Ertz is ranked 3rd out of all tight ends in terms of run blocking with an 81.6 grade. That puts him behind Gronkowski and Delanie Walker.

Given Doug Pederson’s work with the Kansas City Chiefs, particularly tight end Travis Kelce, Ertz then becomes a  must have on the Eagles’ roster. Offensively, Ertz may be the most talented player the team has, and in Doug Pederson’s new scheme, we will see that come to fruition.
