Allen Barbre

Barbre is another player on the offensive side of the ball from the Kelly era to keep an eye on in training camp.

Pederson said earlier this season that Barbre is currently penciled in as the starter at left guard, despite not seeing him perform in camp or in the preseason. There’s no doubt that Pederson could announce a new starter at the guard position before the Eagles regular season begins on September 11th at Lincoln Financial Field against the Cleveland Browns.

Like they did at the wide receiver position, the Eagles have also brought in several guys to compete through free agency and the draft. They selected Issac Seumalo of the Oregon State Beavers in the third round and Halapoulivaati Vaitai of Texas Christian Horned Frogs in the fifth round.

Seumalo re-joined the team for the first time since he attended a brief rookie mini-camp earlier this off-season. He wasn’t allowed to join the team for voluntary OTAs and mandatory mini-camp because of NCAA rules. He can play multiple positions on the offensive line, but he lined up at left guard on Monday’s practice. Vaitai will most likely fill a backup spot on the depth chart this season.

The Eagles signed Stefen Wisniewski to a one-year deal this off-season. He can play both center and guard and should earn a spot on the offensive line, but before starting for the Eagles in 2015, Barbre was a journeyman lineman in the NFL with only eight career starts.

Pederson has made it clear clear Barbre is “his guy”, and the job is his to lose in training camp.
