Training Camp: 5 Philadelphia Eagles To Watch
By Tom Ignudo
Nolan Carroll
Carroll’s season ended early last season after he suffered a broken ankle against the Detroit Lions in week 12. He was a free agent at the beginning of the off-season until the Eagles re-signed the 29-year old to a one-year deal.
With Carroll’s injury and a new regime setting up shop at the Novacare Complex, it looked like he wasn’t going to return to Philadelphia for a third season, but Carroll will compete to start opposite Leodis McKelvin with Ron Brooks, Jalen Mills, JaCorey Shepherd and Eric Rowe. Rowe’s name was not mentioned by defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz at his press conference on Tuesday.
Carroll, one of the Eagles’ veterans at the cornerback position, has a solid chance starting opposite McKelvin, but there are questions regarding Carroll as camp begins.
Can he bounce back from having surgery on his fibula? Is it worth it to have a 29-year old starter, or should the Eagles go young at the cornerback position? Those are the questions Schwartz will have to ask himself during camp. This may not mean much, but Carroll was the Eagles’ best cornerback in 2015. The competition at the cornerback position is definitely one to keep an eye on in the coming weeks.
