6. “The Birds” hand the Vikes their first loss.

It started off as a pretty sloppy game as no one wanted to hold onto the ball and both teams seemed content to continuously give their opponent opportunity after opportunity to seize control. Then, Schwartz’s defense took the game over, and there was no looking back.

Philly allowed their defense to lead the way and got just enough from their offense to cruise to a 21-10 victory. Wentz threw two interceptions, but everywhere the offense seemed to struggle, the defense bailed them out. Against a team that hadn’t lost to that point, the Eagles proved that they could show up for big games.

The victory ended a two-game losing streak and kept the Eagles alive in what became an early and competitive race in the NFC (for a week at least). Two more losses in successive weeks to NFC East opponents would help start the early and season-long process of putting the Eagles’ fire out. The roller coaster ride continued as Philly beat the NFC’s eventual representative in the Super Bowl, the Atlanta Falcons, but every question most of us had about the inconsistent nature of this team was birthed in this game.

Meanwhile, there was one member of this team who showed some consistency. Unfortunately, he was consistently awful.
