The starting offense:

Quarterback: Randall Cunningham

Running Back: LeSean McCoy

Tight End: Pete Retzlaff, Zach Ertz

Wide Receiver: Harold Carmichael, Mike Quick

Offensive Tackle: Jason Peters, Jon Runyan

Offensive Guard: Todd Herremans, Evan Mathis

Center: Chuck Bednarik

Reasons Why

Let’s start this by saying that these, obviously, aren’t the best players at each position. It’s more of an attempt to see how we could infuse some of the former Eagles so that we might make a team that would, somehow, be competitive in today’s NFL.

The biggest thing that probably sticks out is the quarterback slot being occupied by Randall Cunningham and not Donovan McNabb. McNabb is the franchise leader in most of the major statistical categories, but watching Cunningham play today would fun don’t you think? He lacked some of the offensive weapons he needed to be successful (as evidenced by his time with the Minnesota Vikings). Plus, he always had a knack for pulling the team through in close games. He gets the nod here because it would be awesome to see him run some “read option”.

The next position that was pretty difficult to decide on was running back. LeSean McCoy gets the spot here because he became Eagles all-time rushing leader in only six seasons. If we went with a two back set, the next player would be Brian Westbrook. If Westbrook had played several years later, he would have thrived even more. He was the do-it-all back that has become so popular in today’s NFL. He could run, catch the football and return punts. Unfortunately, we only had one starting spot.

Then there’s the tight end position. Ertz is included in this list mainly because of what today’s tight end looks like. As was mentioned before, this isn’t a list of all-time greats. It’s a superteam that we’d like to see compete in today’s NFL. Ertz is the new prototype that can be an in-line tight end. Plus, he can also be split out wide.

The offensive line speaks for itself.
