4. This one’s obvious

Well, you knew this was on this list didn’t you?

Close games can drive us absolutely crazy. Games that are close and shouldn’t be can be frustrating. Week three was the Eagles’ home opener, and it can be described in both of the ways that we just mentioned. Here’s something to think about though.

Without those stressful moments in games, moments like Jake Elliott’s 61-yard field goal wouldn’t mean as much. The Eagles had to get out to an early lead. They had to blow that lead. Maybe they didn’t have to give up 21 points in the fourth quarter, but even still, that added to the story.

Elliott has seen his share of struggles during his brief tenure in the NFL. He was released by the Cincinnati Bengals. There was that miss in Kansas City. There was a miss earlier in the New York Giants game. All of that’s a blur now because when he absolutely had to do it, he did. His 61-yard blast set team records and earned him awards. It also drew the attention of a former coach.

One thing’s certain. Elliott is one of Philly’s newest folk heroes. You do what he did against the Giants and you’re in the hearts of Eagles fans forever.
