Wendell Smallwood, RB

Wendell Smallwood got the short end of the stick when the Eagles traded for Jay Ajayi mid-season. Corey Clement, LeGarrette Blount, and Ajayi all shared carries in the backfield while Kenjon Barner issued value in the return game. With Blount most-likely hitting the open market, Smallwood could find his way back into the equation.

At the same time though, the Eagles may keep a close eye on their rookie Donnel Pumphrey. When they drafted Pumphrey last season, they expected him to become the type of player Sproles has been throughout tenure in Philadelphia. Obviously, a season-ending injury set him back.

Now Pumphrey will get a second chance in the offseason to prove that he can hang with the pros. Smallwood, on the other hand, might’ve played his last season in Philadelphia as they clearly don’t think too highly of him. He spent the second-half of the season including playoffs as an inactive on gameday. Releasing Smallwood won’t get the Eagles much, but don’t rule out a small trade happening either.
