Dallas Goedert, TE

Round 2, Pick 49

As we previously stated, the Eagles did not go into the NFL Draft with a second-round pick. So they decided to flip their 32nd overall pick to the Baltimore Ravens to move back 20 spots. Knowing Howie Roseman though, he wasn’t going to sit around all night for a pick. So the Eagles suddenly traded up in front of the Dallas Cowboys to select South Dakota State tight end, Dallas Goedert (how fitting?)

Many mock drafts throughout this entire drafting process had the Eagles taking a tight end with the 32nd pick. So it wasn’t much of a surprise to see the Eagles snag a guy like Goedert back in the second round. You could argue that tight end wasn’t exactly a significant position in need, but without Goedert, Trey Burton, or Brent Celek, we could see a substantial difference on the Eagles offense.

Like Zach Ertz, Goedert is a certified playmaker. In fact, NFL Analyst Lance Zierlein compared Goedert to Ertz before he was even drafted. It’s clear that Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz loves dealing to whichever tight end is on the field. Last season he threw 11 of his 33 touchdowns to three different tight ends on the roster in 13 games. Although the Eagles could’ve filled some other needs with this pick, the addition of Goedert will leave Wentz spoiled with more weapons in the passing game.

Grade: A-
