Philadelphia Eagles: 6 Signings that failed over the years
Steve Smith, WR
Looking back in time, the Eagles should probably avoid signing wide receivers from the New York Giants. Back in 2011, the Eagles decided to sign Steve Smith. No, not the Steve Smith that had a fantastic career, the Steve Smith that would enter onto the Eagles after a few stellar seasons and do absolutely nothing productive.
Once again, Smith wasn’t exactly a Terrell Owens type of receiver. But seeing a pro receiver tally up 11 catches for 124 yards and a touchdown in a single season is quite frustrating. Smith had a decent stint with the Giants on his rookie contract, but apparently the two parties couldn’t agree on a deal.
The Eagles ended up inking a one-year deal with Smith that was worth $4 Million. Quite a hefty price to pay for a guy coming off of a knee injury. Especially when his former team didn’t really seem all that interested in him as well. But the Eagles took their chance on Smith, and it ultimately ended up as a failure. Luckily, he was only on the payroll for one season.
