Nathan Gerry

Considered by many fans and experts alike to be the dark horse of the race, Nathan Gerry is a converted safety that’s seen as a little undersized by today’s NFL standards.

Gerry’s working his way into the coaches’ thoughts and into the fans hearts thanks to hard work in the weight room, on the practice squad, and, for a brief time last season, on the active roster. He’s packed on some pounds since he’s been in Philadelphia.

His lone start came against the Dallas Cowboys in week 17 last season in an all but meaningless game. In any case, Gerry played well, despite only racking up a single tackle (an assist). He’s also been a standout on the Eagles’ special-teams unit. You’ll notice this will become a theme with these candidates, thanks to both limited starts and special teams experience.

Kamu Grugier-Hill

Speaking of special teams, Kamu Grugier-Hill put the special and special teams by flying around on the gridiron. He made tackles on kickoffs and punts, and he even filled in and kicked off for an injured Jake Elliot during a Sunday night tilt against the Cowboys.

His kickoff resulted in a touch back. On another note, when it comes to his experience as an actual linebacker, Grugier-Hill notched eight total tackles and a forced fumble in 2017. That isn’t exactly numbers that’ll set the world on fire, but it does add to the ‘experience’ category.
