Donnel Pumphrey, RB

During last years offseason, former fourth-round draft pick Donnel Pumphrey had a spotlight on him. After the Eagles passed on multiple big-name running backs in the draft, they decided to take a chance on an undersized speedster like Pumphrey. Clearly, the intentions were to turn him into Darren Sproles 2.0, but his preseason performance as a whole was quite underwhelming.

After a redshirt season, Pumphrey is getting a second chance, which could very well be his last chance. It’s highly doubtful that the Eagles limit the opportunities for Pumphrey this time around. Even as a rookie, Pumphrey had plenty of carries and opportunities to prove his worth. The situation won’t be too different this time around.

So far, Pumphrey has looked faster, and more developed in training camp. So don’t be surprised if he shows a couple of flashes here and there. We just have to make sure that Pumphrey is going to consistently produce throughout these next four weeks, starting with this Thursday’s game. With the Eagles backfield being so loaded up with talent and depth, there’s no room for mistakes. We can expect to see plenty of Pumphrey on the offense and on special teams.
