The Eagles backfield went from thick to thin in a matter of two weeks. During the first week of the season, it felt like there was almost too many running backs on board working for carries. Now, the committee is damaged as not one, but two key players are hurt in the backfield. By the looks of it, Darren Sproles and Jay Ajayi will most likely be out this week. That leaves Corey Clement as the feature back, followed by Wendell Smallwood and Josh Adams.

Clement earns his first major test in the NFL this week. Sure, he’s been utilized in big situations last year. But he hasn’t exactly had to be a feature back in the Eagles offense. This week, Clement will get an opportunity to show the Eagles that he can be a No. 1 back in the rotation for the future.

The Eagles shied away from the ground game for the most part last week, but Doug Pederson should be looking to balance out the offense a little bit more with the quarterback, Carson Wentz back into the picture. It’s doubtful that Clement gets a massive chunk of carries this week, but he may not need much in order to succeed. Let’s not forget, he is also huge in the passing game when the offense is going. So as long as he is producing, the Eagles are in great shape.
