Avonte Maddox, CB

The MVP of last week could’ve realistically been Avonte Maddox. The rookie cornerback started on the outside for the first time this season after returning from an injury and he played lights out against a very good offense. Not only did he snag a game-changing interception from Jared Goff, but he forced Goff to have a passer rating of zero when targeting Maddox throughout the night.

It’s too early to call Maddox a lockdown corner, but guess what? I wouldn’t hate it if the Eagles decided to let Maddox shadow the Texans best receiver, DeAndre Hopkins. It won’t happen, but saying that just tells you how confident the Eagles should be in Maddox moving forward. And that’s not a knock on Rasul Douglas who has been playing fairly well, either.

These cornerbacks might’ve been at the bottom of the barrell when the season started, but ever since last week they have given this defense some hope. Credit to the defensive line for getting to the quarterback and causing disruptions, but aside from that, this secondary has been excellent for what it’s worth. Another big game out of Maddox could be very promising moving forward.
