Philadelphia Eagles: 15 best free agent acquisitions of all-time
By Randy Gurzi
Like many big free agent signings, Troy Vincent entered the NFL as a big-time talent. He was chosen seventh overall by the Miami Dolphins, who loved his size at the corner position.
Listed at 6-foot-1 and 200-pounds, Vincent had wide receiver-like size and could go toe-to-toe with the best wideouts. Vincent started 55 career games with Miami and had an impressive 14 picks in four seasons — 10 of which came in his last two in South Beach.
Following his strong 1995 campaign, Vincent hit the open market and joined the Eagles, who he spent eight of his 16 NFL seasons with. He started for Philadelphia from the moment he arrived in town. By 1999, he had developed into a Pro Bowl player. That season, he recorded a career-high 82 tackles and seven interceptions, also a career-best.
That started a stretch of five-straight Pro Bowls for Vincent, who excelled under defensive coordinator Jim Johnson. Vincent finished his eight seasons with the Eagles by recording 516 tackles, 28 interceptions and 10 forced fumbles. He finished his playing career by spending three seasons with the Buffalo Bills and one with the Washington Redskins.
Since his playing days ended, Vincent has served as the president of the NFL Players Association and is currently the executive vice president of football operations for the league. He’s become a strong presence in the league office, just like he was in the Philadelphia secondary during some of their more successful regular season runs in recent memory.
