Jordan Mailata, LT

I honestly don’t know what the future holds for Jordan Mailata. Last year, Mailata got to play football for the first time in his life. The former Australian Rugby star just had the look of an offensive lineman, which caught many NFL scouts eyes. There were a few teams who were intrigued with Mailata, even though he’s never played football before.

The Eagles ended up spending their seventh-round draft pick on Mailata and brought him in for OTAs and training camp. To much surprise, Mailata didn’t look half bad out there in the preseason. As a matter of fact, Mailata was getting some massive praise from the national media and former players everywhere. He may be a raw talent, but his progression from never playing, to what we have seen in four weeks of professional football was pretty amazing.

Will the Eagles get rid of Jason Peters and host a battle between Mailata and Big V? Most likely not. Mailata was good in the preseason, but we’re just not there yet. However, it will be fun to see his progression after having an entire regular season of practice under his belt. I wouldn’t feel confident in seeing Mailata get significant minutes in 2019, but don’t forget about him.
