Linebackers (5)

The verdict: Zach Brown, Nigel Bradham, L.J. Fort, Kamu Grugier-Hill, Nathan Gerry

The argument: Many of you want T.J. Edwards and this roster, and you should. The guy can ball. Somewhere in his scouting, teams saw a slow 40-yard dash time, and they decided he wasn’t worthy of spending a draft pick on.

For many teams in the NFL, that was a mistake. Edwards can help somebody right now. Honestly, he can help the Eagles right now, but this may be one of those things where the numbers just don’t work for a particular player.

Edwards could force Philly to consider keeping six linebackers. If they don’t, because teams place three wide receivers on the field so often (which takes a third linebacker off of the field), he could be one of the last guys cut. He’ll make his way onto the practice squad, but even if that’s the case, there are two things to think about.

One, another team could swoop in and take him. Second, with the injury issues Bradham and Grugier-Hil have experienced, this young man should hold on to the idea that he could wind up on the active roster at some point. He may even start the season there and be released and added back to the practice squad when other guys return.
