3. ‘We’re going down to Dallas. Our guys are gonna be ready to play, and we’re gonna win that football game’ – Doug Pederson, October of 2019

This one stands out because it’s fresh on everyone’s mind. Call it what you want. Justify it however you want. Eagles head coach Doug Pederson guaranteed a victory versus the Cowboys, and then, he backed off, period.

Come on. It’s the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys, and the game was on primetime television. If he was going to guarantee a win, nobody would have been angry. What’s the worse that could happen? Just say the team loses (which they did). Pederson would have been picked on for a while, but this is social media and NFL fans we’re talking about. Don’t you think they’re going to do that anyway?

Let this be a lesson to you coach. If you’re going to show confidence in your team, you can’t waffle. The fans notice it. Your players notice it. Besides, that old ‘don’t give the other team any bulletin board material’ narrative is old and outdated anyway.

Here’s what Coach should have said: ‘Yes, they deserve to die, and I hope they burn in (you know where)’. We’re just teasing folks. Maybe that was a bit excessive.
