December 19th, 2010: The Miracle at the New Meadowlands

Well, even if you aren’t a fan, you had to know that this was coming. During the first three stanzas of the Eagles’ 2010 late-season road showdown with the Giants, just about every trip to social media, whether that be Facebook or Twitter was loaded with profanity, hostility, and GIFs of some guy throwing a cell phone at a wall.

If you’re an Eagles fan, you couldn’t stop watching though, could you?

Then, it happened. There was an eight-yard touchdown pass to Jeremy Maclin from Michael Vick. That was followed by a 65-yard bomb to Brent Celek, a four-yard touchdown Vick picked up with his legs, and a 13-yard touchdown pass to Maclin to tie the game at 31. Philly was in business, and everything was set up for one of the most thrilling conclusions to an Eagles game in the team’s long history.

Matt Dodge, to the chagrin of his head coach, uncorked a punt in DeSean Jackson‘s direction. Jackson dropped it, picked it up, and weaved his way to the end zone. To this day, the words of FOX Sports’ Joe Buck echoes in the minds of anyone who saw that game on television.

"It’s a line drive kick. Jackson bobbles it, and now he has to try and recover. DeSean Jackson gets a block! Are you kidding!? DeSean Jackson, still not in and now in for the touchdown! No flags! Unbelievable! No time left! Eagles win!"

That block Buck mentioned was made by Jason Avant, and it was so ferocious that Avant suffered a concussion on the play. Much like the 1988 season, the Giants and Eagles both finished with identical records, but the season sweep put Philly in the playoffs over New York.
