5. Ron Rivera, formerly the head coach at Carolina

This is the move that everyone thinks makes the most sense. Ron Rivera won three straight division titles with the Carolina Panthers and led them to a Super Bowl. He’s dealt with difficult personalities, having to deal with the overly-eccentric personality of Cam Newton, and he won Newton over in the process.

The Giants are extremely frustrated with David Gettleman, and he has a horrible name in a ton of NFL circles, especially when it comes to his former players. He gutted the Giants of most of its talent but has been unable to find replacements for the guys he’s dismissed.

He may get another chance though in 2020, and it isn’t a stretch to assume that he may want his guy, the only name on this list that he has had a working relationship with.

Ron Rivera to the Giants? It makes a ton of sense.

Honorable mention: Matt Eberflus, the defensive coordinator of the Colts, and Robert Saleh, defensive coordinator of the Niners

Matt Eberflus isn’t one of those sexy names, and we live in an NFL world where everyone seems to want the young offensive-minded coaches, but Indianapolis Colts Eberflus is as good a candidate as any. Robert Saleh, the defensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers is a very hot topic and has league-wide respect. His players will run through a wall for him. He’ll get a serious look from anyone who’s in the market for a head coach.
