Fifth Round: Maryland CB Tino Ellis

With all of the inconsistency at cornerback in 2019, there’s always the chance Philadelphia uses two of their picks in April at the position, especially if it can help motivate some of the younger players.

As previously mentioned, Darby could be on his way out while others such as Jones and Maddox still have some developing to do before they are on the level the Eagles need them to be on.

Throughout his career at Maryland, Tino Ellis has received all sorts of praise for his man-to-man coverage, and seems like the perfect project for Jim Schwartz to work with on defense, that is assuming the defensive coordinator is still around.

Since Ellis is projected to fall in the later rounds, this could be one of those selections in which Philadelphia decides to hold off on, and take care of a few other needs beforehand.

The fact that Ellis found success switching from wide receiver to cornerback after joining Maryland says a lot about his athletic ability, and could turn out to be another steal for the Eagles this late in the draft.

Of course, there is always the possibility of Ellis jumping the ranks over the next few months if his stock rises, but for now, the fifth round seems like a fair spot for the cornerback.
