Philadelphia Eagles: 4 candidates to avoid at OC following Mike Groh firing
By Dan Parzych
1. Jay Gruden
Keeping the trend going with the Redskins, Jay Gruden was out of a job at the beginning of October after Washington started the new season off on a horrendous note, but also this move seemed long overdue by the organization.
Expectations were high surrounding Gruden in 2014 after looking at his accomplishments as offensive coordinator with the Cincinnati Bengals, but his time in Washington resulted in just one playoff appearance (2015 season).
Even if the argument can be made that Gruden deserved some benefit of the doubt this past season since the team had previously been dealing with the loss of Alex Smith the year before, the Redskins were clearly tired of all the disappointing results.
Sooner or later, Gruden will most likely end up with another job as a coordinator since teams will look at his previous success in Cincinnati, but the Eagles of all teams are quite familiar with how ineffective he was at times over the years in Washington.
Once again, there’s always the temptation of bringing on a former head coach from a rivalry to see if a fresh start helps get things back on the right track, but with Gruden, this simply wouldn’t be worth it at all.
