1. Nnamdi Asomugha (2011)

At the time, bringing Nnamdi Asomugha to Philadelphia was a signal of intent that the Eagles were going to make a Super Bowl push. Instead, it was actually the signing the began this string of bad signings at the cornerback position.

It was also the worst of the five.

Asomugha entered the 2011 free agency period as the number one player available on the market. That wasn’t just among cornerbacks. He was supposed to be the best on the entire board! Everyone believed that. Everyone knew he’d get top dollar, and that top-dollar deal came when the Eagles offered him a five-year, $60 million contract with $25 million guaranteed.

The rest was history. He just didn’t write the history that many of us were expecting.

The former Oakland Raider only ever spent two seasons with the Eagles instead of the five he signed for. He made a Pro Bowl as an alternate in 2011, but that was because of name recognition. He ended his 32-game career in midnight green with four interceptions and seventeen passes defended. he was burned constantly, and the Eagles limped to a 12-20 record during that span.

Trending. Should the Eagles consider adding Eric Berry?. light

You read that right, Carroll had the same amount of turnovers as Asomugha in fewer games, and he didn’t cost Philly a boatload of money.

Asomugha was an excellent player in this league. Unfortunately, it wasn’t with the Eagles. After all the hype and fanfare the only thing that he’s known for now is being one of the biggest free agency busts not only in Eagles history but in league history
