Philadelphia Eagles: Predicting which free agents will re-sign for 2020
Richard Rodgers
Richard Rodgers has only played eight games for the Birds, partly due to injury as well as playing on a team that boasts both Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert.
Still, Rodgers only being 28 provides a cheap veteran presence should either of the starters go down with an injury. A short-term deal could very well be in play for Rodgers allowing the Eagles some time to find a younger replacement in the near future.
For Rodgers, all he has to do is stay healthy for the time being.
Prediction: Rodgers re-signs with the team.
Ronald Darby
Ronald Darby has already tested free agency last year and will likely do the same this year.
However, the only difference this time around is fans shouldn’t expect the Eagles to be in play for his signature this time around.
As everyone knows, Darby didn’t live up to his $6.5 million salary having been consistently burned in coverage all season long on top of being injury prone.
The news that Philadelphia will aggressively pursue a top cornerback this offseason comes as no surprise as the current crop hasn’t been getting the job done.
Look for Philadelphia to trim the fat as they search for an upgrade.
Prediction: The Eagles let Darby walk.
Vinny Curry
Vinny Curry put together a productive season as a role player on the Eagles defensive end rotation, accumulating five sacks, five tackles for loss, and 12 quarterback hits on only 39 percent of defensive snaps.
Much like McCown, Curry is on the wrong side of 30 and the Eagles need to get younger on both sides of the ball.
Free agency will feature younger players such as Vic Beasley while the draft will also host a number of intriguing prospects that could be had in the second or third round.
Don’t forget about the addition of Genard Avery either.
