54. . . . Jalen Mills, Round 7. . player

233rd-overall selection (2016), safety converted to corner

No one who’s been paying attention would ever believe that ‘character concerns’ were even an issue with ’31’ now. He’s proven to be a leader and an exceptional person since he’s been in the ‘City of Brotherly Love’.

Sure, he’s been beaten by double moves, and he isn’t that fast. To be frank, he was actually drafted as a safety prospect and moved to play cornerback. Many believe he’d be more successful playing in the backend, and to be honest, that’s actually a fair statement.

Say what you want about the ‘Green Goblin’. Here are the facts. If an NFL team uses a seventh-round selection on anyone (whether he was seen as someone who could go higher or not), and that team gets a starter who turns out to be a key piece in a playoff run that leads to a Super Bowl win, that team has to designate that player as being a success story.

The eyeball test says it all. Mills isn’t the perfect corner, but he’s solid. The Eagles secondary played better and with more passion when he returned to the lineup in 2019. He’s played every single one of his 52 games in an Eagles jersey, including the playoffs.

He’s registered 222 total tackles, four picks, and 42 pass breakups in those 52 games. That also includes four playoff games. Philly made the right choice here. No doubt about it. The question is do they sign him to an extension? We won’t have to wait too much longer to find out. Grade: A-
