Philadelphia Eagles draft prospects: Henry Ruggs versus Laviska Shenault
There’s no better place to start than with the measurables. We begin with Shenault.
It’s going to be hard not to fall in love with Laviska Shenault if you’re just looking at the guy or some tape. Even if you didn’t know who he was, you’d just assume that he was a professional athlete when he walked into the room.
He’s six-foot-two. He weighs 220 pounds. His tape from 2019 could have been a lot better had he had a Joe Burrow or a Tua Tagovailoa tossing him the rock, but it is what it is. It’s college football, and all someone can do is make the most of their opportunities at the NCAA level.
Put a huge check in the box for Shenault there.
One of the errors that guys with his size tend to make is they’ll push off of defenders because they know they’re a physical mismatch. Shenault doesn’t have to do that.
He’s quick enough to beat guys. He catches the ball with his hands, and that’s where the fun begins. In the open field, he’s special. Good luck bringing him down. He runs routes well, and he can make the contested catches. He’s so much more than a possession receiver though. He can start on the outside for the Philadelphia Eagles on Day 1.
There’s one major issue with Shenault though, and it’s not going to be one that Eagles fans don’t enjoy hearing. There are questions about his durability. His medical report will be just as important as his workouts are over the course of the next few weeks.
