While the argument can be made that Jaylinn Hawkins could have performed better in Indianapolis at the combine, the safety could still turn out to be a solid Day 3 pick for the Eagles.

Philadelphia was already expected to be in need of help at the safety position with Rodney McLeod expected to hit free agency, but Malcolm Jenkins has also made it clear that he’s currently unhappy with his contract situation.

Hopefully, the Eagles find a way to make their star veteran safety happy at some point with a new deal he clearly deserves, but even if Jenkins earns a new contract, Philadelphia could still be in need of help if McLeod signs elsewhere.

Lack of speed is one of the areas Hawkins will need to figure out a way to improve on in the NFL, but at least the safety makes up for it in other areas, whether it happens to be ability to read routes or impressive footwork.

Even if the Eagles found a way to bring McLeod back, the selection of Hawkins this late in the draft would still provide some necessary depth to the position, and provide the youngster to learn from two great safeties for at least a few years.
