5 Midround wide receivers who make sense for Philadelphia Eagles
The last time the Eagles drafted a receiver out of the Vanderbilt Commodores’ program was 2014. That was Jordan Matthews, and that worked out fairly well. No one will mistake him for a future Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee, but in three tours of duty, Matthews won the hearts and the respect of two head coaches, his teammates, and the Eagles fan base.
There’s been no official report that Vandy’s new highly-touted catcher of the pigskin, Kalija Lipscomb, is even on Philly’s radar, but if he was it would make sense.
As mentioned, he played at Vandy. While there, he appeared in 23 games during his first two seasons and caught 64 passes for 929 yards and ten touchdowns. In his final two seasons (also 23 games), he hauled in 134 passes for 1,427 yards and 12 scores despite dealing with subpar quarterback play.
His wide receivers coach in Nashville during the 2018 and 2019 seasons was Aaron Moorehead, who just so happens to now be Philly’s wide receivers coach. Do you think Moorehead may have mentioned Lipscomb’s unique blend of size and speed to the other Eagles coaches and the Philly brass? don’t be surprised if this guy gets a workout.
