840. . . . Tyrie Cleveland. . player

There’s a saying that goes ‘people lie but numbers don’t’ (or something to that effect. By now, life has probably taught you that there are a few exceptions to every rule. Tyrie Cleveland is a living example of that second sentiment as his numbers during his 40-game run with the Florida Gators don’t tell the tale of just how productive he was in ‘The Swamp’.

Their recent lack of success disguises one truth that’s very real about the Gators. They typically field a wide receiver corps that’s one of the best in the country. The cupboard is often so full that guys who would probably start for other programs find themselves buried on the depth charts of Florida’s rosters.

At first glance, it’s easy to dismiss the 79 receptions, 1,271 yards, and eight touchdowns that he accumulated during his collegiate career. Most would see that as a one-year total for some of the game’s elite receivers. Then again, if you subscribe to that theory and write Cleveland off, you also dismiss a big target with nice hands who is faster than his size would lead some to believe he is.

He needs coaching and a lot of it, but he’s a nice idea if he’s available sometime in Round 3 or later. Both he and Guidry are better options than guys like Collin JohnsonMichael Pittman, Antonio Gandy-GoldenDonovan Peoples-Jones, and Quintez Cephus, guys who either underachieved in college football’s regular season or underachieved at the combine or both.
