2 First-round trade scenarios that make sense for Philadelphia Eagles
Philly finds a trade partner with Frank Reich’s Colts.
The Indianapolis Colts are interesting. Again, we’re talking about one of those franchises that Howie knows pretty well, especially now since Frank Reich, Philly’s former offensive coordinator is over there and holding things down as the team’s head coach.
If nothing changes between now and when they’re on the clock, Indianapolis picks two spots after the Jets at 13.
What makes that 13th-overall selection so intriguing is no one knows what the Colts plan to do with it or what course the draft would have taken by the time we all land there. Let’s just throw out a crazy question. Might they go the route of replacing Jacoby Brissett almost one year after Andrew Luck decided to call it a career?
If that’s the plan or even if it isn’t, who’s to say that they can’t trade back to 21 and still get someone they want anyway (and pay less for him).
Here’s something else. Ruggs is seen by many as the third-best wide receiver in this year’s draft class behind his former teammate Jerry Jeudy and the ultra-talented CeeDee Lamb. At 13, we’re getting close to an area where it’s possible that Ruggs is already off of draft boards. If he isn’t, could you make the argument that Philly may want to jump into that 13th slot to land him?
The collateral is the same as we’d be willing to give the Jets. The ‘Birds’ and Colts swap draft choices. Philly gives them one or two of those picks in later rounds or one more 2020 pick and a conditional pick in 2021. Then again, they could just stay put at 21. If they do that, and they somehow wind up with Justin Jefferson, a theory that’s getting tossed around a lot, no one’s going to complain.
