. . . Sidney Jones IV. 22. player. 54

It’s frustrating, but it’s hard to get mad about this one. We all knew what we were getting when the Philadelphia Eagles selected Sidney Jones with the 43rd-overall selection in the 2017 NFL Draft. The plan was simple.

Select a guy in the second round that got first-round grades prior to being injured. Maybe he redshirts a year, but if he can come back from injury and be the guy that everyone said he’d be, this turns out to be a brilliant move.

That isn’t a bad plan. Unfortunately, it just didn’t work.

Believe it or not, this is now Jones’ fourth season in the mighty NFL. Philly’s got a potential ten draft choices. They also have Rasul Douglas who seems to have also fallen out of the favor with the coaches. Might he be trade bait too?

Add him to a position group where the Eagles just extended Cre’Von LeBlanc, and don’t forget about this. There are rumors circulating that Philly’s going all-in on landing a free agent to be, Byron Jones. Avonte Maddox and Craig James are in the mix, and Jalen Mills‘ future is in limbo.

Here’s something else to consider. Philly could extend MIlls. Don’t allow yourselves, for a second, to believe that Jones isn’t expendable. He is, and believe it or not, after a strong close to the 2019-2020 season, the ‘Birds’ will never get more for him than they will right now.
