Deandre Hopkins, wide receiver. . player. 32. . .

Does anyone remember that show Unsolved Mysteries? Well if you do and if they ever bring it back, Howie Roseman is owed a few segments. There isn’t a highly-touted free agent or a guy that wants out of his current contract situation that doesn’t, at some point, hear his name attached to this Philadelphia Eagles team.

Now, we know that the magic Howie Roseman is able to work is a big reason why that’s the case, but there’s also a flip side to that coin. It’s frustrating to know that he’s seemingly always unable to close the deal these days when we keep hearing he was sitting at the negotiating table, Howie is in everything, but guys like MInkah Fitzpatrick and Jadeveon Clowney and Jalen Ramsey keep ending up on other rosters. That has to make you angry if you’re an Eagles fan.

DeAndre Hopkins was available. Philly had a need at wide receiver. Howie couldn’t get it done. Hopkins landed with the Arizona Cardinals instead along with a fourth-round pick in 2020’s draft, and all the Cards gave up to get him was a broken-down David Johnson, a second-round pick in 2020’s draft, and a fourth-round draft choice in 2021. Are we to believe that the Eagles couldn’t do something like that with all of the draft choices that they had?

Sure, Hopkins was going to be expensive. Did we think that he wouldn’t be? This one’s unacceptable. Grade: F
