Malcolm Jenkins, safety. . player. 15. . .

Yes, Eagles fans, it’s true. Malcolm Jenkins is gone. Nate Sudfeld is still here. So is Hassan Ridgeway. Do you know who else is still an Eagle at the time of this story being published? Alshon Jeffery is.

Philly prides itself on giving long-term deals to the homegrown talent that’s earned it, but maybe that doesn’t apply to Mr. Jenkins. Ever since his arrival, he’s given blood, sweat, and tears to this Eagles team and fanbase. He’s even restructured his deal with the hope that Philly would take care of him later. Instead, they took care of Alshon Jeffery.

Jenkins has been on the field for every defensive snap except for the final regular-season game of 2017, one in which Philly rested their starters for the playoffs. Oh, and by the way, Nate Sudfeld replaced Foles in that one, and Philly was held scoreless.

It seems ironic that we’ve spent so much time complaining that Howie Roseman held onto some of the old guys on Philly’s roster too long, but now we’re ticked because he let one of the old guys go. Maybe we should have mentioned that none of us were speaking of Malcolm Jenkins. He’s a freak of nature who should have been allowed to finish his career here.

It’s better to move on a year early than it is to move on a year too late. This is football. It’s a business, and if Philly can let Brian Dawkins go, it would appear that no one is safe. Then again, this guy got $8 million a season from the Saints. Philly couldn’t give him that? Grade: D
