Philadelphia Eagles: Predicting which WRs make 2020’s roster
By Ben Swanger
By now, everybody is aware of the supposed Alshon Jeffery drama. There just isn’t a place for Jeffery on the new-look Eagles. This team wants speed, speed, and more speed, and Jeffery doesn’t supply that.
Yes, he would bring a veteran presence, but the team can’t carry three receivers north of 30-years-old, so, if the Eagles can’t force a trade (it’s hard to see how they can), they may just release him and take the cap hit.
Now, Greg Ward Jr. would be a tough one to let go of. He brings experience and has respect from everyone in the Eagles’ locker room, but as sad as it is to say (and even though he’s worked so hard), he’ll fall victim to the numbers game. Had Goodwin not been acquired, Ward would probably have made the team.
He shouldn’t give up hope though. If any of this team’s starting receivers go down, he’ll probably be the first guy the Eagles call (if he hasn’t been signed by someone else). He’s someone familiar for Wentz to throw the ball to.
There you have it, six receivers for Carson Wentz to get the ball too. With a healthier DeSean Jackson in the fold along with Marquise Goodwin, Jalen Reagor, J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, John Hightower, and Quez Watkins, the “Birds” receiver corps already looks better than it did in 2019.
