The Philadelphia Eagles get back one of their best players on defense who’s also in a contract year.

By now, we’ve all seen enough evidence from Mr. Gerry to say something with confidence. He’s, without question, one of the fixtures of this Eagles starting lineup as we head into the 2020 season.

In a fanbase and media where the hot topic concerning the Eagles’ draft picks is always whether or not team vice president and general manager Howie Roseman did the right thing and whether or not he’s clueless when it comes to evaluating talent at the wide receiver position, Nathan Gerry is one of those things that Howie got right.

Taken in the fifth round of 2017’s NFL Draft, 184th-overall, the man who’d later be affectionately known as ‘White Snake’ tallied 273 total tackles, including 19 that resulted in a loss of yardage during a 48-game collegiate career with the Nebraska Cornhuskers that also included two sacks, 13 interceptions, 19 pass breakups, and three forced fumbles from the safety position.

Philly decided to move him to safety, where he’s shown that he can be a gamechanger. He’s already got three interceptions and eight pass breakups on his 39-game resume, most of which have come in reserve duty, but he’s now taken over as one of the clear-cut starters.

Oh, and there’s just one more thing. ’47’ is in a contract season. Expect the best Gerry that you’ve seen to this point. He’s got a lot riding on the coming campaign as Philly has a ton of cap issues for 2021’s season, and ‘The Snake’ simply wants to prove that he should be included in this team’s long-term plans for the future.
