Well, if you’re a Philadelphia Eagles fan, you knew this day would come.

By now, whether you’ve been a Philadelphia Eagles for 30 years or you found out about this team 30 days ago, one of the first things that had to jump out at you about this fan base was its passion. It’s one of those things that makes you respect them. It can also make you tear your hair out at times.

Why is that you ask? It’s obvious. Sometimes, passion can get in the way of reason. The Philly sports fan, whether they live in the ‘City of Brotherly Love’ or anywhere else in this great country, has a tendency to let their emotions cloud their judgment. If you ever need an example, look no further than their desire to run some of their best players and coaches out of town.

Then again, even in that, once the emotion is taken out of the argument, even the most heated debates can be defended on both sides, especially when it comes to football. Here’s another. The day after the NFL’s two best tight ends, Travis Kelce and George Kittle, signed new extensions, the man who’s universally been seen as the third-best, Zach Ertz, isn’t guaranteed anything past 2021.

So, here we sit in a mixture of debate, strong opinions, and emotionally-charged theories. Ertz will be here for the next two seasons unless some fans get their way and he’s shipped off in some trade package. It seems wrong in some ways. It would definitely be weird to see him in another team’s jersey, but again, if you look at things objectively, you can make the argument as to why it needs to happen.

Word has it that the Eagles and Zach Ertz are no closer to a new deal than they were when he turned down the last one, and here are the top two reasons why said deal may never be reached.
