player. 54. . . . Darius Slay, cornerback.

The Philadelphia Eagles new star at cornerback should earn a ton of attention following a nice season on what has a chance at being the best team he’s ever played on.

For quite a few Eagles fans, two of the more recent memories of Darius Slay include him recovering a fumble and returning it 38 yards in an upsetting 27-24 Eagles loss this past season to the Detroit Lions and his game-ending interception in a Week 5 loss to the Lions back in 2016.

That pick also doubled as the first interception Carson Wentz through in his career. Thank goodness these two are teammates now.

For most ‘Birds’ fans, this is a relationship that appears to work on both sides. The Philadelphia Eagles get the shutdown corner that they want. Slay gets to play on a team that’s actually a contender for something other than saying they won one of the games played on Thanksgiving.

For his career, Slay has three Pro Bowl nods, all of which have come in each of the past three seasons. He also earned a First-team All-Pro nod in 2017, a year in which he tied for the league lead in interceptions.

He’ll get a lot of attention in 2020. He’ll also play in four primetime games this season. If he has a nice showing in each one of them, he’ll get a lot of love from Pro Bowl voters. Another appearance in football’s all-star game and a First-team All-Pro selection won’t be impossible to earn for this young man at all.
