Philadelphia Eagles 53-man roster projection, September edition
Are the Philadelphia Eagles finally making the linebacker position one of priority?
Maybe the prayers of Eagles fans all over the Delaware Valley and the rest of the country have been answered. Seemingly, since Andy Reid was in town, all we’ve talked about is how this team needs to be more serious about putting more stock into the linebacker position. They haven’t taken one in the first round of any NFL Draft since they took UCLA’s Jerry Robinson in 1979.
In the offseason, Philly added Jatavis Brown, who recently retired. Nathan Gerry is the elder-statesman now, but he’s also in his fourth year, a contract season. The Birds took Shaun Bradley and Davion Taylor is 2020’s selection meeting. Both should make the roster.
The learning curve for all of these guys should be steep, but with Ken Flajole as their tutor, they should be fine. With needs elsewhere and with teams traditionally using three wide receivers in their offensive base sets in today’s NFL, there isn’t a need for more than five linebackers, at least in the minds of most. We’ll have to wait and see if the ‘Birds’ agree come Saturday.
Verdict: Nathan Gerry, T.J. Edwards, Davion Taylor, Shaun Bradley, Duke Riley
