. . Shareef Miller, defensive end. . player. 54.

Would the Philadelphia Eagles give up on Shareef Miller before he even played a snap?

The level of competition at the NFL level is so thick that you can still cut it with a knife, but that knife has to be a lot sharper and sturdier than it used to be. Teams are giving up on guys who are still able to produce all of the time, and they’re giving up on very talented players at positions of need.

More from Inside the Iggles

The Washington Football Team, who clearly needs to figure out how to score points, has gotten rid of two of their best running backs, Adrian Peterson and Derrius Guice. The New England Patriots let Mohamed Sanu go, and the Jacksonville Jaguars let two of their best players go in a little less than a week’s time, both Leonard Fournette and Yannick Ngakoue.

If you’re looking for a more Eagles-centric example, remember that time they traded Dennis Kelly to the Tennesse Titans for Dorial Green-Beckham? What’s really sad about that is out of the league and Kelly is still producing for the Titans. What can’t be ignored about that story is Tennessee dealt ‘DGB’ to the ‘Birds’ one year after drafting him in the second round of 2015’s NFL Draft.

Last year, Philly got rid of quarterback Clayton Thorson not even six months after using a fifth-round selection on him. This year, one of the stories at camp is Philly’s fourth-round selection from 2019’s draft, Shareef Miller, has been outplayed by a guy the ‘Birds’ drafted in the seventh round of this year’s draft and a guy that went undrafted in 2017.

At ITI, we’ve previously mentioned Miller as a possible surprise cut before, but that was more of the ‘bold prediction’ category. This time, we have evidence. Don’t be surprised if he’s left off of the roster in favor of Ostman or Toohill or both.
