3 Philadelphia Eagles wrinkles that can cure those Carson Wentz concerns
By Hunter Doyle
3. The Philadelphia Eagles need to get this running game going.
Looking back on the film, the Eagles went with inside zone or duo run concepts most of the time. What this means is that the offensive linemen are either attacking straight upfield or double-teaming a few defensive linemen in the middle.

The plan was for the Eagles to have their offensive lineman push upfield despite the fact that they had Nate Herbig and Jack Driscoll in the lineup.
They ran an outside zone once, and that wasn’t successful either. Brute strength didn’t get things done as zone and duo runs produced just 24 yards on eight carries. That number was bolstered by a 10-yard run that was actually created by Boston Scott making something out of nothing with some great individual effort on one play.
Philly could benefit from a few ‘trap’ or ‘power’ plays to pull offensive lineman across the formation and catch defenders off guard. The ‘wham’ concept also would’ve been perfect since that utilizes a tight end to create room to run in the middle.
Goedert’s blocking ability is well-documented and fun to watch. Despite that, they only used that concept once. That will need to change in Week 2.
