The spotlight is on for two Philadelphia Eagles stars.

Regardless of where you stand on the Zach Ertz story, you have to agree that something needs to be done about it. The Eagles don’t need to make a decision until after the 2021-2022 season, but this can’t be a distraction all year long.

Ertz already said that he wants to play for the ‘City of Brotherly Love’ but doesn’t know if the feeling is reciprocated. The ‘Birds’ can’t afford to let any resentment that he may feel fester into the season. At the same time, Philly’s best weapon on offense needs to come through on plays like that fourth-down attempt. That hasn’t been an issue before, but you have to wonder if he’s distracted.

Quarterback Carson Wentz is what makes this offense go, so if he struggles, it’s to be expected that Philly’s offense will do the same. ’11’ got pummeled in Week 1, but he’s the face of the franchise and needs to rise to the occasion, even if the deck is stacked against him. That’s life for a franchise quarterback in the NFL.

Is that fair? No, it isn’t. Still, this is why quarterbacks make so much money and have a win-loss record attached to their names. His offensive linemen have to block better. His wide receivers need to get open and catch passes, but this is the guy. He’s the face of the franchise, and all of Philly’s success will need to begin with him and trickle down to the rest of the offense. If he plays well, Philly should win in Week 2.
