Could a former Philadelphia Eagles rival become an ally?

It was rumored that when the Birds were looking for an offensive coordinator, that Eagles Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie had expressed his desire that the candidate would be someone who had done the job before and that he be someone that was hired from outside the organization.

Now, in all honesty, there’s no guarantee that was ever said because, unlike Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys, Jeffrey Lurie doesn’t need to find a microphone every 15 minutes, so finding a direct quote on that particular matter is a little difficult to do. Here’s what we do know though.

John Fox possesses that experience most Birds enthusiasts clamor for. Try about 40 years of coaching experience on for size. Once upon a time, he was the defensive coordinator of the hated New York Giants. It was also his Carolina Panthers that beat the Birds en route to a Super Bowl XXXVIII. Then, there’s this. When we last checked, he, Doug Pederson, and Howie Roseman all had the same agent, Bob LaMonte.

Fox visited Eagles training camp before which led to a few questions, but nothing serious came out of that. It has also been three seasons since Fox has been on the sideline for anyone. Has the game passed him by? It’s doubtful. Good luck finding another candidate more deserving of a serious look.
