Here are a couple of defensive standouts for the Philadelphia Eagles’ defense.

Round 5: Ifeatu Melifonwu, defensive back, Syracuse

If the Philadelphia Eagles don’t double-down on the cornerback position in 2021’s draft, they are making a mistake. Syracuse corner Ifeatu Melifonwu is a big defensive back (he’s six-foot-three and 215 pounds), one that moves smoothly in coverage and has some of the best ball skills coming out of this year’s draft class.

The Eagles would be lucky to find the Orange product is available in the fifth round. He’s someone that could contend for a starting spot in the Eagles’ defense right away.

Round 5: (2nd pick) James Wiggins, safety, Cincy

Cincinnati Bearcat defensive back James Wiggins is an underrated safety that would upgrade the Philadelphia Eagles defense and special teams right away. The six-foot-tall, 205-pound athlete has the football intelligence to be a field general for the Birds’ defense.

The Eagles need to find talent like Wiggins if they are ever going to compete in the NFC.

Round 5 (3rd pick) Caleb Huntley, running back, Ball State

Ball State running back Caleb Huntley is a true tone-setting runner, one with good size (he’s five-foot-ten and weighs 230-pounds). He’s sneaky quick and has the natural ability to be a star in the NFL. Built to be a bell-cow tailback, Huntley would be a great compliment to Miles Sanders.

The Eagles need to upgrade their depth at running back, and Huntley would be a great starting point.
