. . . Don Looney, 1940. . player. 54

Here’s an oldie but goodie if you’re a Philadelphia Eagles fan.

Alright, Eagles fans, we are going way back on this one. Most of your parents weren’t even born yet, but we are still sure that you have heard this name before, and if not, you’re in for a treat.

Not only did Don Looney play one season with the Birds, but he only played a total of three seasons, in the NFL. Two of those were with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

John Don Looney, not to be confused with his son, former NFL player, Joe Don Looney, made quite the noise in his 1940 rookie season. The TCU product racked up 58 receptions for 707 yards (a league-high), and he scored four touchdowns. Don Looney was the first receiver in NFL history to have over 100 receiving yards in each of his first two games. This accomplishment wouldn’t be repeated by a Bird again until 2008 when, you guessed it, our guy DeSean Jackson exploded onto the scene.

Following a phenomenal and historic rookie season, Looney would have little success as he accumulated less than 200 receiving yards and only scored two touchdowns in his two seasons in Pittsburgh, but no one can ever take away the magical rookie season that he produced. That one will live on in the history books forever.
